(Tuesday, December 18, 2019) — The Holiday spirit of giving is alive and well at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH). An unexpected donation of $15,000 from the company Belt Conveyor Guarding was dropped off at the Foundation’s office this week to help purchase defibrillators for the Hospital.
“We’re always amazed during this time of year at the generosity of organizations and individuals in our community,” said Nicole Kraftscik, Senior Development Officer, OSMH Foundation. “This gift means so much to our Hospital, as we are currently in the process of fundraising for 28 new defibrillators. Thank you to the entire team at Belt Conveyor Guarding for your support.”
The Hospital’s current fleet of defibrillators are all more than twelve years old and need to be replaced. This includes defibrillators in high-risk areas of the Hospital, including cardio-respiratory, emergency and the intensive care unit. Each new defibrillator will cost approximately $13,000, which means the gift from Belt Conveyor Guarding will go towards purchasing one of these life-saving machines.
“There’s nothing more rewarding than giving back to your local community,” said Karen Vandergeest, Vice President, Belt Conveyor Guarding “When you’re in a position to impact people in a positive way – it’s an easy choice to do what you can. This year it was extremely important for our company to support all the local Hospitals that both my family and employees have used and continue to use.”
The new defibrillators will also be outfitted with the latest technology, including a pulse regulator, a dashboard that monitors the quality of a care provider’s CPR, and the ability to immediately adapt to suit a child or adult.
